Central Scotland Fire & Rescue Service
 | | | Tyndrum, Killin and Crianlarich Appliances 2001. | Killin's present Fire Station was built in 1963 by Perth and Kinoss Fire Brigade, and was taken over by Central Region Fire Brigade in 1976 with the reorganization of the Scottish Local Authorities.Re-organization once again in 1995, the station is now part of Central Scotland Fire & Rescue Service. The station holds a Volvo FL6 Water Tender Ladder (Fire Engine) and provides storage and training facilities. The Fire Station is manned by Retained Fire Fighters who are mobilized by radio pagers when required to attend an emergency. Eight crew members in the station, seven male and one female all of whom as well as being trained in normal fire fighting techniques are trained in the wearing of breathing apparatus to allow them to enter smoke and fume filled area's to fight fire and rescue casualties. All the members are further trained in the use of hydraulic cutting equipment to free persons trapped in vehicles after accidents. Six of the crew are drivers for the appliance. The station is one of the quieter in Central Scotland with around one emergency per week. Although a quiet station, in the event of a call, we can be sure of a real emergency, unlike some of our sister stations in the area of whom most calls are hoax, or automatic fire alarms going off in error. The Killin Firefighters, along with all stations from Central Scotland on the weekend of 22nd & 23rd September 2001 were out on the streets fundraising for the Firefighters of the New York City Fire Department, who lost their lives trying to save the lives of the people fleeing the attacks on the World Trade Centre. The Killin crew raised £1,150, Tyndrum crew raised £1,138 & Crianlarich crew raised £330. The Service in total raised over £45,000. We had a fantastic response from the locals and the visitors to the villages. Thank you to all from the Killin, Tyndrum and Crianlarich Crews.
