Searching for the parents of my gggrandfather Duncan McArthur born in Kenmore or Killin in either 1802 or 1804. We think his parents may be either John McArthur and Elizabeth Maclean or Donald McArthur and Christian Carmichael. Duncan was a blacksmith in Kenmore as were all of his sons so his father might have been one also. According to naming patterns, Donald seems to be closer but I don't want to rely on that. If anyone has any info about John, Elizabeth, Donald, or Christian, please let me know and perhaps I can rule out someone.

[SIZE="3"]Can you tell me whether there is a possibility of learning family history information about a couple who lived in Edramucky during the late 1790s and early 1800s? They were Hugh Cameron and his wife, Barbara Campbell. They had at least two sons that I know of - John Cameron and Archibald Cameron who were born in the 1790s. I have searched the records available on Scotlandspeople.com but what I am really anxious to learn about is where, exactly, what piece of land would have been the home for this Cameron family. I believe they were crofters, but I have also discovered that the father, Hugh Cameron, may have been an innkeeper - a 'change keeper' in Edramucky. If there is any direction or advice anyone can give me, I will be very grateful. Thank you. Maescelyn

I have been searching for months for a marriage between William GRAY b. ca 1810 and a Margaret SWAN b. ca 1810. Their first child Duncan was born Sept. 1841, then Mary 1844, Margaret 1845, William 1846 & Janet 1848, all born in Kilmadock. Then they emigrated to Upper Canada (Ontario) where Jennie, Peter & James were born. Can anyone help me with finding this marriage ?

The only Margaret SWAN I can locate is a daughter of John SWAN & Ann Fletcher who was born in Killin on 19 July 1820. Would anyone have any info on these SWANs ?

I found a marriage on the IGI between a William GRAY & and Margaret LEVAN on 10 June 1841 in Kilmadock and I'm wondering if the names SWAN & LEVAN are interchangeable or transcribed wrong as both names end in AN. The date of this marriage is at about the right time & place.

Thanks for any help,

Hello

It is a while since I last visited but I didn't realize it was as long ago as 31 December 2008 since I posted on the Family History board. I am still looking for my family FRASER of Monemore, Killin, but from reading the posts no one seems to be researching Frasers! If by some good luck someone is, see my post dated as above on page 2.

Since writing then I have discovered that two of DUNCAN FRASER'S sons emigrated to Canada in the 1830's. JOHN FRASER (1808-....) who, like his father Duncan, was a blacksmith emigrated to St Andrews East, Quebec, Canada where he married ANNE FRASER known as Nancy. She was, of course, another family of FRASER'S who had emigrated from Inverness-shire. Their children were Catherine born 1833, John, born 1835, Duncan born 1837, Elizabeth born 1839. No knowledge of John's death other than that he was alive in 1839 but in the Canadian 1851 census his wife was a widow.

Catherine Fraser married PETER DOUGALL in 1852, died 1914, age 80, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They lived most of their life in Renfrew, Ontario and had nine children.

The other son of DUNCAN FRASER who emigrated to Canada in 1834 was WILLIAM FRASER, born Killin 1810, died 1974 in Toronto, Canada. William had studied medicine in Glasgow, continued his studies in Toronto and became a well respected doctor closely associated with the McColl Hospital and university.

I still know nothing of the son ROBERT FRASER except he was a 29 year old blacksmith in 1841. Nothing at all about the youngest son DUNCAN FRASER born in 1817. Nor anything about ELIZABETH FRASER born 1821.

Other names I am interested in are ROBERTSON, BUCHANAN, McMILLAN/MacMILLAN, McFARLANE.

I won't write more here as I have written quite a lot in my post of 31 December 2008.

Good luck with your family research.

Lizzie
